Society for Classical Studies (SCS)
The Society for Classical Studies (SCS), founded as the American Philological Association in 1869 by "professors, friends, and patrons of linguistic science,", was renamed in 2014 as the result of a strategic planning process and membership vote following a successful capital campaign. It is currently the principal membership organization in North America for the study of ancient Greek and Roman languages, literatures, history, material culture and the relationship of Greek and Roman culture to the broader ancient Mediterranean and beyond. While the majority of its members are university, college, and school Classics teachers and graduate and undergraduate students, members also include scholars in other disciplines and anyone is welcome as a member.
The Forum for Classics, Libraries, and Scholarly Communication (FCLSC)
The Forum for Classics, Libraries, and Scholarly Communication (FCLSC), also known as the Classics Librarians’ Forum, brings together librarians and researchers interested in classical studies, in order to promote the exchange of information and ideas and to collaborate on projects of mutual interest. The impetus for the forum grew out of meetings at Princeton University and the Center for Hellenic Studies in 2004. As an officially affiliated group of the Society for Classical Studies since 2005, the Forum aims to support initiatives of the SCS relating to libraries and scholarly communication.
Institute for the Study of the Ancient World
ISAW is a center for advanced scholarly research and graduate education, which aims to encourage particularly the study of the economic, religious, political and cultural connections between ancient civilizations. It offers both doctoral and postdoctoral programs, with the aim of training a new generation of scholars who will enter the global academic community and become intellectual leaders.
The Classical Association of New England
The Classical Association of New England (CANE) is a membership organization open to scholars, educators, students, and all those with an interest in the languages, history, cultures, and literature of the ancient and medieval Mediterranean world, as well as their reception around the globe and into modern times. CANE is committed to embracing not only the traditional understanding of “Classics” as encompassing the Greek- and Roman-centered narratives of antiquity, but also the perspectives of cultures previously under-represented and under-explored in the past several centuries of classical scholarship.
