STH: Special Collections

The Oregon Province Archives of the Society of Jesus first took form in 1912.  The archive has the single greatest collection of extant material on Jesuit missionary activity in the Pacific Northwest between 1853 and 1960.  In 1932 when the California Mission was split in two, the Oregon Mission assumed authority over the Alaskan and Rocky Mountain Mission.  The historical papers of the Alaskan Mission are included within the Alaskan Mission Collection of the Oregon Province Archives.

• The Pacific Northwest Tribes Missions Collection of the Oregon Province Archives of the Society of Jesus. This collection contains over 50,000 pages of manuscripts written by Jesuit missionaries in Alaska and the Pacific Northwest between the years 1886-1955.  Documents are separated into mission stations (reel 1-27) and biographical material on the missionaries (reel 28-34).
• The Oregon Province Archives of the Society of Jesus Alaska Mission Collection. The microfilming of the Alaska Mission Collection follows the organization of the Oregon Province Archives and contains 730 manuscripts written by Jesuit missionaries in Alaska from 1886-1955.  Documents are separated into mission stations (reel 1-25) and biographical material on the missionaries (reel 26-42)
