Story of a young woman growing up in post-colonial Guinea, has a crush on a former freedom fighter now in charge of a cooperative fishing business. The young woman also has a secret admirer, who sends her love poems copied out of a book. The former freedom fighter is attracted to the young lady, but he disapproves of her love of fashion and all things European, which clashes with his determination to support their homeland.
