How to Locate Permalinks

Accessing Newspapers @ BU

Explore some of the more popular newspapers and magazines available through BU in our News and Newspapers guide.

Many of these papers are accessible through a third party database, meaning you will need to create a permalink within that database to access articles later. Sharing a link directly from the publication's website (for example, NYTimes.com) will often put students behind a paywall. We have provided instructions for permalinking articles from the following publications

Why can't I find this article in the BU databases?

Reason 1: The title has changed since it was indexed.

  • It is common for newspapers to update the titles of their articles after their original publication. If you are accessing an article through the newspaper's website, you will see the most recently updated title. However, these articles are indexed by 3rd party databases shortly after their publication, and therefore it is common for databases such as ProQuest or Factiva to have an older version of the title. If searching for an article title is not giving you results, we recommend searching for the first sentence of the article, or the article author's name and publication date.

Reason 2: You are viewing a "web exclusive" article

  • Many publications (especially magazines) publish more articles online than what appears in their print editions. Some of these publications consider "print articles" and "web articles" to be two different publications, and they are indexed separately. Harvard Business Review and Forbes are two examples of this. If you are unable to locate an article from a publication you know we have access to as an eJournal, feel free to reach out via Ask a Librarian for assistance.
