About ERIC

ERIC is a key education-related database. While many of the journals focus on educational issues at the elementary and secondary level, this database is a rich resource for articles on educational theories and how they might apply to health promotion and education. Here are some keywords and phrases to try in ERIC:

Please note: your results will be more manageable if you type phrases into quotation marks

  • "health belief model"
  • "transtheoretical model"
  • "theory of planned behavior"
  • "theory of reasoned action" OR "theory of planned behavior"
  • "social learning theory" OR "social cognitive theory"
  • "social marketing"
  • "diffusion of innovation"
  • Freire AND "adult education"
  • ERIC will not have a lot of information on the "multi-theory model"

An Example of a Search

Here is an example of a search in ERIC. This illustrates how you might set up a search on how social cognitive theory could shape a physical activity related intervention.
