This library guide is primarily intended for isiXhosa language learners at Boston University and members of the Boston Library Consortium.  It contains information on library materials, internet & community resources useful for learning and practicing isiXhosa.  

Note: The language is often referred to as Xhosa in English, but this guide will use isiXhosa, the prefix "isi" indicating language, while Xhosa people are amaXhosa.

Culture and History

The Xhosa language, isiXhosa, is one of the eleven official languages of South Africa and is spoken as a first language by over 8 million people. It is the second-most common first language in South Africa, with the largest concentration of speakers in Eastern Cape.
