Statistics in PubMed

Journal articles can be a good source of current statistics, and PubMed's MeSH database enables you to specify what kind of statistics you need. To find statistics on various conditions or populations in PubMed, try the following steps:

1. Go to the MeSH headings database within PubMed. You will find that here: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/

2. Once in the MeSH database, type in the disease or condition you are researching.

3. The MeSH database will retrieve the definition of the condition or population. It will allow you to select from a menu of subtopics related to your illness or population of interest.

4. Sometimes, you will have the option to select "statistics and numerical data" as a subtopic. PubMed will search for articles that report on statistics and data. The epidemiology subheading will also retrieve articles that report on statistics.
