The Typological Diversity of Morphomes: A Cross-Linguistic Study of Unnatural Morphology by
This is an open access title available under the terms of a CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 International licence. It is free to read at Oxford Academic and offered as a free PDF download from OUP and selected open access locations. This is the first typologically-oriented book-length treatment of morphomes, systematic morphological identities, usually within inflectional paradigms, that do not map onto syntactic or semantic natural classes. In the first half of the book, Borja Herce outlines the theoretical and empirical challenges associated with the identification and definition of morphomes, and surveys their links with related notions such as syncretism, homophony, segmentation, and economy, among others. He also presents the different ways in which morphomic structures in a language have been observed to emerge, change, and disappear. The second part of the book contains its core contribution: a database of 120 morphomes across 79 languages from a range of families, which are presented and analysed in detail. A range of findings emerge as a result, including the idiosyncratic nature of morphomes in the Romance languages, the existence of cross-linguistically recurrent unnatural patterns, and the preference for more natural structures even among morphomes. The database also allows further explorations of other issues such as the effect of learnability and communicative efficiency on morphological structures, and the lexical and grammatical informativity of morphs and their distribution.

Computational Stylistics in Poetry, Prose, and Drama by
This volume responds to the current interest in computational and statistical methods to describe and analyse metre, style, and poeticity, particularly insofar as they can open up new research perspectives in literature, linguistics, and literary history. Prosody and Prosodic Interfaces by
This volume brings together new work on prosody and prosodic interfaces from international experts in the field. The book is divided into three parts that explore topics in word prosody and phrase prosody, lexical tone and intonation, and the syntax-prosody interface. While many recent studieshave focused on prosody and related questions, a significant number of languages, dialects, and varieties remain largely undocumented or understudied in this respect. Este volumen es el resultado de un proyecto científico amplio, que tiene sus raíces en una trayectoria formativa y académica compartida por las editoras que remonta a los años de los estudios doctorales romanos en lingüística sincrónica, diacrónica y aplicada que se han enfocado, en ambos casos, en la lengua española. A partir de ese entonces ambas hemos venido conformando un punto de vista peculiar sobre el español, en el que la tradición de estudios lingüísticos de base italiana se ha enlazado con los estudios hispánicos de alcance internacional.Recientemente este antiguo proyecto ha encontrado las condiciones para su realización gracias también al establecerse de una red de colaboración entre estudiosos con intereses de investigación comunes y animados por una misma necesidad de reflexionar en torno al ámbito disciplinar denominado “lingüística hispánica”.Desde nuestra perspectiva, esta disciplina se ubica en el marco de la investigación sobre el lenguaje y las lenguas y es un dominio científico que pretende estudiar el español mediante modelos teóricos y metodológicos propios de la lingüística.
