Getting Started With Research Online

The internet can be the best place to begin searching for your art. Find artist websites, news articles, reviews, exhibits, interviews, etc. Some of these are your exhibit sources and may also be background sources. Use the information you find here to help you come up with keywords and topics to search in the BU Library Search where you will look for more information to provide context and help interpret your art.

Example
Article:  Seven Black Boston-Based Artists on Their Work as a Form of Protest (Boston.com 2020)

Let's say you are interested in the artist Lavaughn Jenkins. In this article, here are some keywords you could use for your search, and that's just the beginning. The article includes a link to his instagram account and explains the meaning behind his work:

MassArt alumnus Lavaughn Jenkins creates his signature three-dimensional paintingssculpted figures covered in thick, swirling layers of oil paint—in his Roxbury studio. You may have seen them featured in institutions such the ICA and the Abigail Ogilvy Gallery.

On the internet, you can also find his website, www.lavaugnjenkins.com, his instagram page, news articles (check the BU Library catalog for the full text!) and interviews.
