About This Guide

This guide is intended as a guide to researching people and cultures in Africa.

Depending on how one defines the boundaries between one language or ethnic group and another, there are nearly 2,000 languages spoken in Africa, each the mother tongue of a distinct ethnic group.

Ethnic groups overlap political boundaries, languages may overlap ethnic groups, ethnic groups may be known by a myriad of different names.

This guide will offer some research tips and guidance as you begin research.
