Ethnomusicology

Delve into the cultural study of music and explore content from across the globe with this diverse and comprehensive collection. Produced in collaboration with the UCLA Ethnomusicology Archive, the material in this collection includes thousands of audio field recordings and interviews, educational recordings, film footage, field notebooks, slides, correspondence and ephemera from over 60 fields of study.

Materials covering a range of African American musical idioms and cultural expressions primarily from the post-World War II era. The collections highlight popular, religious, and classical music, with genres ranging from blues and gospel to R&B and contemporary hip hop. The AAAMC also houses extensive materials related to the documentation of black radio.

ILAM is a research institution devoted to the study of music and oral arts in Africa, it preserves thousands of historical recordings going back to 1929 and supports contemporary fieldwork. It is currently digitizing its collections.

Founded in Geneva in 1983, the Ateliers d’ethnomusicologie (ADEM) is a cultural association dedicated to world music and dance. Throughout the year, the Ateliers offers concerts and festivals, lessons and courses, as well as activities for young people. The Ateliers also produces books and CDs and supports migrant musicians who live in the region.

The European Seminar in Ethnomusicology (ESEM) is a platform for professional scholars and advanced students in ethnomusicology. ESEM was founded in 1981 in Belfast by the late Prof. John Blacking (1928-90) as a European network for ethnomusciologists, but welcomes scholars and topics from all over the world. ESEM also functions as platform for exchanging news on recent events, publications, job offers etc.

Finland Etnomusikologinen Society promotes research in ethnomusicology and disseminate information on the world's musical cultures.

The primary objective of the SIBE is to contribute to the development of scientific research and dissemination of ethnomusicology, a field of study that is interested in musical cultures around the world and includes the so - called popular, folk and traditional music, starting from the idea of that music is a fundamental cultural and human resource development of individuals, peoples and cultures.

SFE encourages, supports and promotes reflection on world music. The SFE is also a network of experts, active in institutions such as UNESCO, museums, festivals or media (print, radio, TV, internet), thus contributing to the knowledge and dissemination of artistic and cultural expressions of humanity.

Publishers of the journal Asian Music, the society also awards small grants and the Martin Hatch Prize recognizing the most distinguished student paper presented at the SEM annual meeting on Asian music.
