Search Tips for the Library Catalog

BULS Search Box

Begin with a keyword search and try various combinations. How you search can determine the number of results:

For example:  “international students”

Using and narrows the search: International students AND Boston

Using or broadens the search. : International students OR Boston This search includes results for any work that contains either Boston or International students (or both). This example is obviously too wide to be useful in your research.

The BU Library Search also has many facets that can be used to refine your search in various ways.  On the right, you can also limit by source type, such as book, article, video etc. Or use the date slider to see only material published after 2019.

The results provide a breakdown of books and articles on that topic and other similar subject headings you might want to investigate.
