- African Index Medicus The need for improved access to what has been published on health issues in African countries has long been felt by researchers, development agencies, health administrators and planners both inside and outside the continent. Very few African health and biomedical information sources are included in the world's leading bibliographic databases and there is a wealth of untapped information in books, reports and studies from international development agencies, nongovernmental organizations and local institutions. Only by awareness of what work has already been done, can further advances be made; giving visibility to locally published material avoids overlapping, conflicting or redundant research work or the unnecessary duplication of health learning materials. New studies would then build on earlier reports of projects or research already undertaken. This would reduce costs of duplicated efforts, improve on methodology earlier used and make research more cost-beneficial and original. All African medical journals could be indexed in the AIM database. Articles on or related to Africa and published in other regional or international journals are indexed.

- Africa Online Digital Library (Michigan State Univ.) The African Online Digital Library (AODL) is a portal to multimedia collections about Africa. MATRIX, working in cooperation with the African Studies Center at Michigan State University, is partnering with universities and cultural heritage organizations in Africa to build this resource.

Southern African journal of infectious diseases.
The Southern African Journal of Infectious Diseases (SAJID) publishes topics on all aspects of infectious diseases, particularly those of importance to the FIDSSA societies. Topics around infection include clinical and epidemiological aspects of communicable diseases, laboratory diagnosis of infections, characterisation of infective agents by molecular techniques and the study of transmission patterns of pathogens in institutional and community settings. Other infection related studies cover surveillance of vaccine-controllable and other infectious diseases, drug susceptibility patterns of hospital-acquired and community-acquired pathogens and infection control strategies for the southern Africa region. SAJID also promotes greater collaboration between clinically oriented and laboratory-based divisions within the FIDSSA societies, and the establishment of quality assurance programmes and other measures to enhance and maintain standards of diagnostic and public health microbiology. Manuscripts describing research performed at Southern African institutions and in Southern African settings enjoy a high priority, as do health matters covering Africa and the developing world, as well as global issues such as malaria and other tropical diseases, tuberculosis, sexually transmitted infections and HIV and AIDS. SAJID’s scope of interest is wide and the journal aims to maintain and improve the standard of its publications.
