Mugar Library has a complete set of LIFE magazines in print from the first volume (1936) through volume 73 (1972). Because of their fragile condition, the bound volumes are shelved in the Reserve Room on the first floor and are available on request..
LIFE's images depict the great happenings of the 20th century in America and throughout the world. Among its notable correspondents and photographers were Margaret Bourke-White, Robert Capa, Gordon Parks, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Alfred Eisenstaedt, Andreas Feininger, Dorothea Lange, and W. Eugene Smith. Besides major events, such as World War II and the landing on the moon, the essays and photographs portray American domestic life, science, art, music, sports, fashion, entertainment and advertising.
