Where can I find historical stock prices?

  1. From the WRDS homepage, choose CRSP.  Next select Stock/Security Files under Annual Update.

"Stock/Security Files" is the first option under Annual Update.
  2. Click on Daily Stock File, under Stock/Security Files.

Daily Stock File is the bottom-left option under Stock/Security Files.

  3. Choose your date range.

Two boxes in which you can populate dates, in Year-Month-Day format.

  4. Under Apply Your Company Codes, click on Ticker and type the ticker symbol (Example: IBM) into the search box.
"Ticker" box is on the far left. Then type the ticker of the company you are researching.

  5. Under Query Variables, select Company Name under Identifying Information and Price or Bid/Ask Average under Time Series Information.

Red rectangle isolates the selected variables. In this case, those would be "Company Name" and "Price or Bid Ask Average".

  6. Under Query Output, select Excel and the date format

Red rectangles delineate the output format chosen (Excel spreadsheet) and date format (Year, Month, Day).

  7. Click on the Submit Query button and when the data output is complete, a link to the Excel file will appear.  Click on the link to the Excel file to access the downloaded data.
