"An exploratory study of food deserts in Utica, Mississippi." in Research Handbook on Community Development
In the deep Southern state of Mississippi, the small town of Utica historically and currently
is predominantly rural and is one such locale, which has been identified as having
all the common characteristics of a food desert.
The purpose of my study is to investigate this community’s status as a food desert, and
explore potential approaches for improving and increasing its access to venues offering a wide variety of healthy and nutritious food products at lower prices, including the creation and opening of farmers’ markets.
