Using Images

The Bottom LIne

To make sure your use of an image is permissible, scroll down to the bottom of the webpage or website where you found it.  In most instances, you will find a usage statement - Terms & Conditions, Terms of Use, Rights, Copyright Restrictions, etc.  Or, click on the image and look for image details, object information, etc., to determine its status: restricted, free to use, open access, etc.  Many image sites put this information just below the image or in a prominent place on the page.  See "Open Access Images" for more examples.

If you are still uncertain, look for contact information and request permission directly from the image creator/owner.
